Movie vs. Book

So today I did nothing. I got dressed and ready to go to the grocery store. Never made it. I planned to have spaghetti for supper tonight, but the closest I came to it was getting the jar of sauce out of the pantry. I decided that if today ended up being a do-nothing day, then it would be fine with me. I didn't have anything pressing to do, so I took advantage of having a full day with nothing to do.

Yesterday was disastrous. I got my new "tooth". I hate it. It's not painful -- well, I mean, relatively speaking. It's making me gag sometimes. Oh, and then there's the bracket poking my gum. And then there's the little issue of taking it out. It feels like it's going to rip the million dollars' worth of dental work I've had done right out of my mouth. Other than those "small" things, it's not bad at all. The $3500 implant is looking better and better.

Then there was a little mixup at Blockbuster that ended up with us owning this movie that I had been wanting to see.

So I snuggled up with my favorite blanket and wasted the afternoon away watching this movie. I will advise you that, unless you want to be thoroughly depressed, don't watch the movie. One of my favorite actresses, Abigail Breslin, of Little Miss Sunshine, was outstanding. And Cameron Diaz was great too. Sofia Vassilieva, whom I had never heard of, was so good too.

Now, this movie was based on a book written by Jodi Picoult. I started the book a good while back, but didn't finish it. I have learned since that if I had finished it, I would have been very disappointed with the movie. Have any of you read the book or seen the movie? Besides Karla, of course. I know she's seen the movie and probably read the book at least once.
Here's what I'm reading now.
I'm only on about page 50, but so far I'm loving it. You may remember that I have a vested interest in this book. Back in June when we were on vacation at Tybee, Miley Cyrus was there filming the movie.

Because I know Miley's role and I saw some of the sets, it's making the book so much more fun to read. And I cannot wait until April 2, 2010 to see the movie. If you want a sneak peek, just go here to see the movie trailer. You can actually see Lighthouse Pointe where we stay. So cool. I hope I won't be disappointed in the movie after reading the book. Do you usually like the book or the movie better?
So what's everyone doing for New Year's eve? The party we're going to is serving appetizers. Did anybody make one or try something someone else made that you loved? I want to take something different, but can't think of a thing. I'll probably end up getting Buffalo wings. You can't go wrong with those. And they don't have to stay hot to stay tasty.
I'm off to continue brushing up on my Spades skills.
Till next time.

Oh, Kelly I read My Sisters Keeper and wnated to choke the mother by the time the book ended....so I wouldn't see the movie, all of her books are like that. You'll need to be in therapy after reading a few of them ~ LOL....
Try making cheesy crab english muffins really easy. 1 jar of old english cheese, 1 can of lump crab, 1/2 stick of butter. heat cheese and butter until well belnded, fold in crab, preheat oven to 450 pop muffins in to toast up a bit tehn top with spread and put back in oven and bake until golden brown. then slice up into 4ths. One package goes A LONGGGG WAY!

I have not read the book, I think that I read about the book and decided it wasn't for me:) I have not read anything lately... that is on my to do list. I have several books backed up. Sorry about your tooth, old one and new one. It is always a pain in the booty to have to get used to something different. Even worse when it is in you mouth. I have really bad gag refexes, so it would be bad for me I am sure. What Lynda said sounds really delicious. I haven't tried anything new lately in the appetizer area. Sorry... not much help tonight:) Love you and enjoy you New Year's Eve!

Well.... I try to stay away from movies that are too sad and when I say "too sad" that could even be a cartoon! We don't have set plans for New Year's Eve. We'll see. No idea for finger foods either. I like to make (well, I hate to make but love to eat) sweet & sour chicken wings. I make a good clam dip we like, too! Have fun with Spades! xoxo

I'm with Joyce, even a cartoon can make me sad! I will definitely NOT be seeing that movie or reading that book. I can still watch Terms of Endearment or Steele Magnolias, but I KNOW what's coming. No surprises. Otherwise, count me out of that sad stuff. I know you'll come up with some fab appetizer. You always do..
Love ya and Happy New Year's :0)

Ok well the one person who never goes to a movie, because it is a waste of money to me, DID see this movie and I had to have tissues while watching and needed medication for depression after watching!!! I thought I told everyone I knew not to watch it! It was so depressing to me!! I made a couple of new appetizers at Christmas I will e-mail you the recipe! Have fun and good luck on your spades game! I love you!

Hi Kelly. I have not read that book, but the funny thing is that I AM reading a book by Jody Picoult right now called The Pact. Pretty good, so far. I agree that the books are always better than the movie. As far as new appetizers, my Mom is so good at those. She can whip up some apps in a heartbeat. I like her red pepper jelly and cream cheese with crackers. What about a pan of those swedish meatballs and gravy? Yum. Hope you have fun. Have a Happy New Year!

Of course, you know I saw the movie and read the book. The book was way better. Like, a million times better.

We were at Tybee this past summer also. Hubby had business there and by chance we saw Miley a couple times on the beach close to dark. We didn't bother her but the kids really enjoyed seeing her. I hope this doesn't mess up our getaway place with lots of tourism, I kinda like it calm. Although last summer was anything but calm. It was fun. Just a crowded beach! We also can't wait for the movie. And to get back to Tybee & snow cones at night after a walk on the beach.
