Life's a What?

Jeff and I are heading to Blue Ridge, Georgia this morning for my birthday getaway. We changed our plans and I'm so excited. There are only two things that are keeping me from bursting with excitement. 1. The rain. 2. A migraine the size of Texas.

I've been checking the weather forecast for here and there every ten minutes. I'm praying so hard that my Auntie Barbo's house doesn't flood again. I have never-ever seen this much rain before. Thank goodness, though, from what I can see this morning, it looks like the she'll be spared the worst of it. And I am so thankful.

The forecast for Blue Ridge is pretty much the same. Rain today, rain tomorrow afternoon, and then a nice day on Friday. Of course. That's the day we come home. Ugh. We could stay until late in the afternoon, but Cam's so excited to make his first hunting trip to his hunting land. He's actually planning to camp in his camper. He left me strict instructions. He needs charcoal and he needs food to stock it. I guess we'll leave him some money so he can do his shopping.

Last night Cam had to make cornbread to take to school. I pulled out a recipe and helped him make it. We had to take pictures of him making it to show that he actually made it.
I don't know what was wrong with my shortening, but something was. Cam nearly gagged when he put it in the skillet. It made the whole pan of cornbread taste awful. We ended up throwing that cornbread away. I went into the pantry and pulled out an old faithful.
It turned out perfect. We even baked it in the cast iron skillet. I didn't know Crisco could spoil, but mine sure did. It made the cornbread taste like it was made with paint.
Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes! I had a very, very good birthday. I'm like a little kid. I like to celebrate my birthday for a whole week. We'll be having our annual birthday campfire Sunday Night Supper this weekend. That is definitely something I'm looking forward to. I love to see all the kids roasting hot dogs and marshmallows. They love it and I know I'm making a good, good memory for them.
If I can get the Internet in the mountains, I'll post again before long, hopefully with some pictures of an old friend. The sun.
Till tomorrow -- or when I can. LLL. And pray for dry weather.

I used to work and work to make good corn bread. I used every recipe I could find and it never tasted as good as my friend Terri's. I finally broke down and asked for her secret. She pulled out a box of "Jiffy". I wanted to scream but instead just broke into laughter. Now we keep it stocked all the time and LOVE it. Enjoy your weekend!
