What a Difference a Day Makes

Yesterday it was cold and windy here at the beach. Not quite the beach weather you dream of. The long walk we had planned on taking yesterday wasn't such a great idea. We nearly froze. It is much warmer and nowhere near as windy today.

There is a half-marathon race today on the island. While hundreds of health conscious folks were up early and running/walking a half marathon, I had a big decison to make. Should I have the pecan twirls, the chocolate donuts or the honey bun with my coffee. I know, it was a tough one. After careful consideration, though, the pecan twirls won out. The honey bun wasn't fresh enough (I am my father's daughter, after all). The donuts felt kinda hard too. And the pecan twirls, well, everyone knows that nuts are good for you. As you can see from the picture below, I ate almost all of them.
Doc's was in its usual Friday night form last night. It was just so crowded, though, we had to sit in the very back and so you can't really take it all in quite as well from that vantagepoint. It was fun though. I was tired from not sleeping the night before, so we actually came back to the cottage way earlier than we normally do.
Hopefully today we'll be able to take in that long walk. They've done a lot of work on the beach at Lighthouse Point where Judy and Ronnie's condo (our home away from home) is. When we were down in December, there was virtually no beach at high tide. They've had this big machine out in the ocean that's been bringing sand up from the bottom of the ocean and sifting it and making more beach. They've done it all over the island and the beach is bigger than ever. They've finished this end of the island and it really looks nice. We've actually been on the beach in the summertime and at high tide, there would be no beach. Hundreds of hot, sweaty sun bathers covered in various brands of sunscreen scrambling for a spot on a tiny little beach was certainly no fun. The beach improvement will be great.
Cam's golfing this morning. He's taken a recent interest in playing. As much as his dad, uncles, grandparents love the game, it seemed likely that one of my boys would like it. Of course, if you know Cam, you know that he is like me in that he likes to look the part of what he's doing. That is to say, he must have khaki pants, nice shirt and even golf shoes. Even though where's golfing today allows you to wear tennis shoes. He'll look like he knows what he's doing even if he doesn't. Ross is being so responsible with everything at home. He's taking good care of Smokey and Bandit.
Time to go. So much to do, too little time. Hope it's sunny where you're at and that your weekend is off to a great start.

Livin' on Tybee Time

And it doesn't get much better than that. We had a safe ride down last night. Note to self: Do not, if at all possible, make a long car trip with Jeff on his birthday. He has rather eccentric taste in music and we share the same iPod. Gasp. We have about 1200 songs on it. There are about 100 to 200 that he and I both like. He played the "it's my birthday, so I get to listen to whatever I want to" card over and over. So I had to listen to a whole bunch of songs that I can't stand. But hey, when it's someone's birthday, you do what they want, right?

We got down here pretty late. It was after 10 o'clock. We got into our adorable cottage apartment. It is precious. I wish I could decorate like the decorators who decorate these places. Anyway, we were not to be disappointed. It's so clean and well furnished. Y'all know that makes A Girl Named Kelly Kelly super happy!

After Jeff unloaded the car, all by himself, in the freezing cold -- I know, it was his birthday, but he wouldn't let me help -- we decided to go check out Doc's Bar.

That's our most favorite place to hang out here. And it was the first night of Ms. Sylvia's 100th b'day party. Since it was so late and it was a Thursday night, we thought there might not be much going on and maybe Ms. Sylvia might have even gone home by then. What a surprise when we got there. There she was shaking her maracas to the beat with Roy, the best musician on Tybee. And the later the night got, it seemed like more of the local folks came in to say hi to Ms. Sylvia. That's livin' on Tybee Time. Since it was Jeff's birthday, too, he wanted to have his picture made with her. She was so sweet and wished him a happy birthday as well.

We stayed till Roy's last song and Ms. Sylvia was still there. It wasn't as crowded as we've seen it, but tonight will be another story for sure. Fridays are always my favorite night to go to Doc's.

Mr. Sandman eluded me for the first time in a good while, but I think it was mostly due to the stupid energy drink I had at about 5 in the afternoon. Another note to self: No more energy drinks for me. Jeff, on the other hand, slept like a rock. What do you expect, he drove four hours, unloaded the car in the cold, plus he has worked about 80 hours this week.

We had a late breakfast at our favorite breakfast spot, The Breakfast Club. It was yummy! I had an omelette (ain't gonna spell check that, I'm on vacation) with Monterey (see previous spell check note) jack cheese and tomatoes, grits and toast. It was so good. Bacon egg and cheese sandwich for Jeffery.

We're just chilling out right now, literally. It's chilly here, although it's so pretty and sunny. We're going for a walk and take in some new scenery since we're staying on a part of the island that we've never actually stayed on before. Then we may come back and rest up for the BIG party tonight.

Wish y'all were here. It really is my favorite place this side of heaven :-)

This One Goes Out to the One I Love

Happy B'day, to my sweet, sweet hubby! I know I've told you about 46 times already, but personally, when it's my birthday, I like to hear it over and over again. I think you're the bomb-diggity of a husband and you're probably the only man, or woman for that matter, in the universe who could live with me. I thank God for you and I love you!

Happy Birthday, Jeffery!!!!! Now I've told you 47 times. Hmmmm.

We're Going to Tybee, We're Going to Tybee!

Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay, my, oh, my, what a wonderful day. Plenty of sunshine headin' my way, zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay.

We don't leave until tomorrow, but, hey, who cares! I'm excited today.

Thanks to Diane at Mermaid Cottages, we've got a GREAT place to stay. I'm going to take no less than one million pictures. We're going to celebrate my sweet hubby's b'day and we're going to celebrate one of Tybee's Most Favorite and Famous Characters, Ms. Sylvia, who plays a tambourine at 100 years old!!!! Yet another reason to move to Tybee. To live to be 100 and play a tambourine, be happy and have a zillion friends. How could it get better than that?

Y'all, please, if you're looking for a Girl's Weekend or a Romantic Getaway, skip the hotel/motel scene and check out Mermaid Cottages. Wow, you'll be impressed. I haven't gotten this link thing down yet still, so just go over to the right side of my blog and look at "MY FAVORITE PLACE THIS SIDE OF HEAVEN", there you can click on her blog and check out all her beautiful cottages. When Jeff and I started looking at them, we discovered we had seen so many of them on our trips down there. And now to stay in one of her places, I CANNOT WAIT!!!!! I'm going to wear my flip-flops the whole weekend. I don't care if it's zero degrees. I've got toe socks and I'm not taking them off. The food, the friends, and the fun! What a great time it's gonna be.

It's All In the Eye of the Beholder

Cam's a member of the FFA and really wants to go to an agricultural college. He did a great SAE project last semester and was one of the two chosen to take his project to the next level. Well, the problem is that after he turned all the written info and the pictures and stuff in last semester and got his perfect 100 grade, he brought the notebook home and now he can't find it. Big, big problem.

I had Cam clean his room yesterday afternoon thinking that it must surely be in there as that would, of course, be the most logical place. I heard him banging things around in there for about 45 minutes. I thought, wow, he must be doing a great job cleaning his room while he's looking for the notebook, because cleaning his room was part of what he was supposed to be doing.

Well, Jeff goes in the boys' rooms. I don't. It's just one of those things that my OCD cannot take. I mean, I freak out. Totally, completely 100 percent go off the deep end, mama's losing it freak out! Therefore, I didn't go in his room last night to check on the job he supposedly did cleaning his room up.

Work's been so crazy for Jeff the past few days. He's been working way more hours than he normally does. But when he did finally get home last night, I asked him to please look a little for that project because it's really important that we find it. He looked in a couple of places, but I don't think he really looked in Cam's room, but if he did, he didn't pay it much attention. (Big surprise there, right!) Of course, Cam says he gave it to me to keep. I found his project from last year, his Veteran's Day project from this year and a few other things, but not the one project we need. Obviously, he didn't give it to me or it would be with all the others. I save things my kids make, even if they are 20 and 16. I looked everywhere I could think of and I've not been able to find it. Jeff's looked. Cam's looked.

Well, today, I broke down and entered Cam's room. I thought hmmm, it couldn't be too bad. I mean, he did clean it yesterday for about 45 minutes. And I did hear him in there moving stuff around and everything. And after all, Jeff did go in there last night. I'm safe, I'll be fine. At least that's what I thought. I couldn't have been more wrong if I expected to wake up this morning with Jessica Simpson's full figure body. It looked like it had been ransacked! Why, oh, why can't the child put trash in the trash can? I just don't get it. And what is up with him and the bananas? Today I found one that was all uneaten and brown! I swear, it's a miracle we don't have creatures roaming every nook and cranny in our house.

I spent well over three hours cleaning that room. I tore everything out from top to bottom. Dusted everything. When he got home from school, I said to him, I thought I told you to clean your room yesterday. His reply, I did clean my room yesterday. OMGosh, is it ever in the eye of the beholder.

And . . we still didn't find the project.

Addendum to The Beat Goes On . . .

Happily, the Butterfinger cake was in the fridge after all. It was in the spare fridge in the garage. So I oinked. Again. Good for me. Unfortunate for Jeff's coworkers.

And the Beat Goes On

Well, folks, it's Monday again. But it's already noon and so far so good. . . That is, if you call a good old-fashioned scolding good! As I've briefly mentioned before, I've made a little job move. I can't go into detail about it here, but this morning suffice it to say that A Girl Named Kelly Kelly was scolded, but she kept her composure, dignity and Sweet Southern Girl personality all intact. After the scolding, I regretted that I had sent the rest of the Butterfinger Cake with Jeff to work today to share with his coworkers. I was gonna eat every last bite of it. I wasn't even gonna feel guility about it either. Oh, well, it wasn't here, so I had a boring sandwich instead. And the beat goes on!!!!!

Was there a game on TV last night? Didn't see any of it except the last two minutes. Funny commercials? Didn't watch a single one. The Super Bowl, to me, is muchado about nothing. But, hey, I think that generally speaking people like things out of the ordinary and look for reasons to celebrate and get together.

Tonight's Bachelor night. I can hardly wait. Jeff's b'day is Thursday and then we're off to Tybee Friday. Yippee!!!! Last week was tough and I'm excited about this week and looking forward to having some F-U-N!

Enjoy the rest of your Monday. Stay away from scolders and I hope you've got something to look forward to this week!
